// shadow acne
a common problem that many unity artists encounter upon bringing a 3d model into their scene is “shadow acne”
this visual error occurs due to the discrete values used to generate the shadow map. this means that at a small scale, the shadow map may not contain accurate surface information causing the holes or “acne.”
we can tweak this with the bias controls which offset the geometry of the model so that the model becomes “thicker,” forcing shadows to generate in tight areas.
while this can fix this common problem, it introduces a new common shadow issue known as “peter panning” do to the floating effect caused by the shadow depth offset.
